Exclamation Desktop problem *Please Help*

I play Battlefield 2 but when i went to install the latest patch for it I noticed that it was taking along time and i didn't have much time, so I cancelled it out. so now theres a BF2 patch icon on my desktop and I cant seem to get rid of it. when i try to delete i get an error message saying "Cannot delete bf2_v1_12upddate: It is being used by another person or program. Close any programs that might be using the file and try again."

Please help me get rid of this, thanks in advance.

Restart your PC.

Don't open any programs. Delete it.

Not work?

Go in Safe Mode and delete it.

Ctrl + Alt + Delete. Look under processes, find the BF exicutable and end the task.

some computers use [F5] or [F8] to get the startup list but you got to do it when it starts loading BEFORE windows loads up.

Note that this VARIES between desktops and laptops, I found out that F5 works the best on my laptop however

Is it read-only? Is it in a folder that's read-only?

I think the DLL is bfield2.dll (or something along the lines) if you remove that you may be able to get rid of it, and also remove and reget the installation patch as well.

it's a bug in winxp. sometimes this happens to me as well, on all file types. If a program crashes for some reason or you close it during a silent crash (non dialog crash) windows will become literally obsessed with a file. After several reboots and doing other things, the file should delete on its own. Sometimes defragmentation applications can also cause this peculiar phenomenon with games. For example, if you install baldurs gate 2 and then defrag your drive, the game will not run if you havent patched it, but trying to uninstall it, windows will tell you its in use.

Its crazy, but microsoft has never offered a fix yet. (i spoke to my lass, who works there, and she says they have several hundred emails per week about this problem).

Delete the file from the sorce with guns - lol

you should just go into Start - control panel - add & remove programs and kill the thing straight from the sorce

PS deleting things works better on ADmens

im afraid to mess with anything in the BF2 folder since the game is soo touchy and the slightest mess up will make the game unplayable, and I DONT WANT TO GO THROUGH THE 40 MINUTE PROCESS OF UNINSTALLING AND REINSTALLING BF2 AND SPECIAL FORCES AGAIN

Okay, I have BattleField 2 myself, just do this;

Un-Install it. (c'mon, it's just 40 minutes or whatever you said to re-install it)

Make sure the whole directory is deleted:
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2

Re-install.

Then try install your patch (if you want to)...if it doesn't work. Do;

Ctrl+Alt+Delete, Processes.
Find "BF2.exe" and a ~something, sec getting screenshot of my own, right-click them both and 'End Process Tree'.

It's what SOT said. I get those every now and then, stuck folders, stuck files. They won't go away whatever you do. Just wait, give it a few days and then try to delete it unless it has removed itself.

Possibly running chkdisk might help.
